Things to do in San Cristóbal de las Casas? Spend a family day at the Grutas del Mamut (Mammoth Caves), an eco-tourism park just outside the city. The name comes from a rock formation inside the caves that, shaped over the years, looks like a mammoth. Besides exploring the caves, you can paddle a boat along a river, ride a zipline or camp overnight.

- Getting there (taxi): from downtown San Cristóbal, take a taxi to the caves. Around $160 to $200 MXN per trip.
- Coming back (combi van): catch a combi back to San Cristóbal nearby or out on the main road (around $35 to $45 MXN per person). Ask the locals to find it more easily.

- Explore the caves and see the mammoth-shaped rock formation.
- Rent a boat and paddle about 100 meters along the river ($35 MXN per person).
- Ride a zipline (around $150 to $250 MXN per person).
